Our decorative boxes, of a pleasantly fibrous texture and subdued natural color, are hand-woven by the indigenous Wichí women of Northeastern Argentina. Made from fibers of wild chaguar, a sturdy local variety of bromeliad, each box is unique.
The Wichí community has inhabited the vast and sparsely populated Argentinian Chaco region since time immemorial and to this day has managed to maintain a deep connection with the natural world. The community's ancient weaving technique and unique relationship with the chaguar plant are an integral part of their tradition and cultural heritage.
Every step of box production, from seasonally extracting the fibers out of carefully selected chaguar leaves, to weaving them into wonderfully curved shapes, is informed and inspired by the local environment.
At Morena Linda we sustainably source our products in collaboration with local artisan communities at a fair price. Together we keep their ancient skills alive.
