Our baskets, richly colored in shades of brown, ochre and green, are hand-woven by the indigenous Wichí women of Northeastern Argentina. Made from fibers of wild chaguar, a sturdy local variety of bromeliad, each basket is unique.
The Wichí community has inhabited the vast and sparsely populated Argentinian Chaco region since time immemorial and to this day has managed to maintain a deep connection with the natural world. The community's ancient basket weaving technique and unique relationship with the chaguar plant are an integral part of their tradition and cultural heritage.
Every step of basket production, from seasonally extracting the fibers out of carefully selected chaguar leaves, to weaving and coloring them in soft patterns and warm tones that evoke the region's majestic landscape, is informed and inspired by the local environment.
At Morena Linda we sustainably source our products in collaboration with local artisan communities at a fair price. Together we keep their ancient skills alive.
