This piggy bank was handmade from red clay in Northwestern Argentina by local artisans.
The clay is first carefully collected in the area. The colour of clay soil varies between locations, in Northwestern Argentina it is red. The collected clay is first moistened for several hours and then kneaded. Then the clay is ready to be shaped. The artisan gives the desired shape to the clay and then lets it sun dry. Afterwards the object is polished for a smooth finish. The final step is to cook it at high temperatures.
